Email (as in text/plain) is different. It is not a markup language.

Drupal sends plain-text emails by default. Plain text mails should (in
my opinion) be wrapped to 80 lines. If you want to send html-mail you
need to use some contributed module. That module can undo the wrapping
of the text for the html mails, if desired.
