Drupal.org already has a search for all its content.  I could 
potentially see adding list mails to that, but not the code api you see 
on drupaldocs.org.

Nah, most people here love it.  Most people who love Drupal love the 
technical side of it all, and that shows up.  It makes sense.  No 
worries.  Everyone here is pretty nerdy.  ^.^

It is very important, though, to not get distracted.  A technical 
discussion and a documentation discussion can occur simultaneously, but 
the documentation thing shouldn't stop so people can talk code.

One thing I liked about the Doc Books Wiki is it takes even that 
unfamiliarity out of the equation.

I am confused!  The book module does this.  The handbook does this.  
What version is your Drupal?
