Go ahead and start editing -- you don't even need to be signed in,
although that makes it easier/quicker to get revisions approved.

I actually just asked for some clarification on the revision process
myself, but essentially it goes like this:
1. Non-maintainer edits/creates book page
2. a) Revision gets created, set to unpublished
b) Maintainers notice new revision (this is where I'm shaky -- it's
not clear to me how maintainers are notified -- I *think* we have to
manually remember to review "unpublished" items)
3. Maintainer reviews revision and sets status to published

There is also no feedback mechanism to let the editor/author know of
changes or suggestions (other than directly editing the page again, in
a separate revision). Comments have the habit of becoming outdated and
then not getting merged into the page and (worst of all) confusing
people. This list or a documentation forum should likely be used for
that, I guess.
