[drupal-docs] Fwd: 10 STEPS TO AN ONLINE COMMUNITY [ was Re: Dailykos debating CivicSpace ]

Perhaps I can provide some context. There was a discussion on DailyKos
about Meetup.com going fee-based. Alternative approaches were discussed,
and mainly it came down to a consensus that either Scoop or Drupal/CS
should be used. Some wondered if CivicSpace was mature enough -- they
were going by the pre-1.0 release number. Anyway, the thread is here:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/1/95025/58475

(My small contribution was here
<http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2005/6/1/95025/58475/197#197>. The
original CSL discussion about Meetups is here
<http://civicspacelabs.org/home/node/12211>.)

Part of the DailyKos discussion got to just what such a mappable meetup
kind of module/package should have, and that led to discussions of open
source and grassroots.

It's a real-world case where perhaps this documentation effort can draw
some lessons. This is the most active (and, I would argue, smartest
overall) progressive political site in the US. Its disparate grassroots
membership, most of whom are not tech savvy, are trying to grasp what it
takes. Hence I think Liza's effort is truly inspired. What are the top
10 things they should consider?

Anyway, as background, in case you were interested.
