I can think of one style guide item already: never show the command line 
prompt in the instructions. People tend to copy/paste them, and it is 
much better to use e.g. a monospace font to distinguish command line 
text from plain text.

The bit about missing .txt extensions seems a bit obsolete to me. As far 
as I can tell, every readme file in contrib has had the .txt extension 
since 4.5.
