Hey All,
Two sample video documentation presentations are available here:
http://www.developmentseed.org/viddoc/createaccount.html
http://www.developmentseed.org/viddoc/postingtotheblog.html
(Internet Explorer Required, we're working on this)
Quicktime Format, will work outside of IE:
http://www.developmentseed.org/viddoc/createaccountqt.html
http://www.developmentseed.org/viddoc/postingtotheblogqt.html (this one
is uploading as I send this...up in 5 mins.)
Please note the script for this video is not meant to be final, nor is
the audio cut final. What we'd like everyone to look at in these videos
is the overall visual presentation, including use of text boxes, what is
referenced w/ those text boxes, etc. to get more initial ideas before
solidifying a general format for the videos. Also, please comment on
the style/tone of the audio. What will help? Talking slower, talking
less, etc?
One question/scenario we have is that a node creation page, such as
/node/add/blog will appear different for a user with node admin
privileges as compared to a user without node admin privileges. Does
this merit creating two videos? Or, if we do one video and show what an
admin would see on a node/add/blog page, essentially will a user get
overwhelmed? How to deal w/ this? Is it dealt with well through the
use of popup boxes?
Finally, these videos deal with fairly simple subjects. Once the format
is agreed on, we can redo these and make the below video presentations
and create videos on more complex subjects like navigation and
explaining all htmlArea functions.
Other notes...we need to write exact scripts for each video in order to
decide what video is linked to which, for example, when signing up for a
user account, should that be the same or separate video from adjusting
"my account" settings? If separate, should we even talk about changing
password immediately after creating a new account because it is a common
task a user may want to do immediately to avoid forgetting login?
Outline of presentations:
-User Registration
-Adjust "my settings"
-Create content: (linked to default workflow, input formats)
-blog entry
-story
-page (linked to creating custom navigation and managing url aliases)
-book
-event
-Default workflow settings and examples
-Input format settings and examples
-Navigation (based off Kieran's navigation tutorial, and which could
include:)
-How to interview users of your site
-How to design your site so information is grouped the way your users
think it should be grouped
-All the parts of a Drupal site involved in navigation
-How to change the navigation in your theme
-How to create a special home page that doesn't have your theme on it
-How to create blocks
-How to create menus and menu items
-How to show blocks only for certain pages, or types of users
-How to show blocks based on events, such as logging in.
-How to set default navigation for uncategorized content on your site
-Send a private message
-htmlArea demo
-Configure a CivicSpace site
-Subscribe to an RSS feed on a CS website using a common news aggregator
app.
It may make sense to put together a flow chart to help show the
relationships between each videos, like the Create New Account demo is:
see also Adjust 'My Account' Settings
and for administrators 'My Account' settings is see also: User
Configuration
and User Configuration is see also: User Permissions
etc. etc.
We should add to the above list of possible video presentations then map
out the actual number of videos which need to be made, etc.
Thanks,
Ian and Eric
