Hm, well..
1) Drupal is the right solution for many tasks but not every. Not everything
is a nail for the Drupal hammer. :-)
2) Drupal is flexible enough to handle so many varied tasks because it is so
modularized and abstracted, which is what adds that "bulk". :-) A general
purpose X is always going to be more complex than a single-purpose X.
What do you mean by "too big" and "slim"? Perhaps if you were clearer with
those we could give some tips.
