I wholeheartedly agree. But when editing, don't seem to have any access to 
the author field. If there are no prior revisions, there is no revisions 
tab, and I can't even determine the current author. I seem to recall an 
earlier discussion about the fact that author gets updated when a page is 
edited, and that this also blocks the original author from editing pages he 
wrote unless he is a document maintainer. No access to 'weight' either.

Yes.  I noticed the author field was being changed on some of my pages.

I think that's fine if it is a significant re-write is done.  But
small edits shouldn't include the author changing.
