The point is that you get a cvs checkout instead of a tarball. cvs
checkouts come with all sorts of benefits like being able to do "cvs
up -r DRUPAL-5-7" to upgrade to a specific tag.
Changing it to say "-r DRUPAL-5" would be a mistake in my opinion
because then people are using just whatever is at the tip of that
branch. The tip of branches is often unstable and has more bugs than
point releases. It also makes support harder:
Q: Which version are you running?
A: A cvs checkout from DRUPAL-5 that I did a week ago.
That makes debugging quite a bit harder than "the DRUPAL-5-7 TAG".
So, I propose we leave it as is and then link to (and create, if
necessary) some docs that mention how to use cvs to update between
point releases.
