Bruce,

Simply remove the block in block administration, and add a link to user/login in the menu administration.

As for the second question, go to your theme settings and change this in the "global settings".

Hi all,
      I wanted to find out if there is a way to remove the login box from the page even for visitors.  I wouldn't mind a simple link to login page on the menu.
      Second, remove the code of "submitted by," how do I remove that?
