I've read some interesting technique in a similar situation using
master-master replication for some table in mysql.

I think Michael Morelli aka Ziobudda posted an article somewhere
about how he did. I can't find the website anymore.

I can't help you further you'd have to ask to Michel. I've seen him
posting to the list sometimes.
