[support] Can I build a community function without using noe_* tables?

My current site have What'sNew, FAQ module displaying blocks and it is

retrieving data from separate table not have relationships with node_*
tables.

 

No I planned to exdend my site with community function. 

Doeas anyone built community function without using tables node_*?
