[support] Filefield inline pdf D6

When I went from Public Files to Private Files, my .pdf files now ask to be saved instead of displaying in the browser.  Here is the issue in D4.7 - http://drupal.org/node/61528.  How would you resolve this in D6?  

I'd like to resolve it as below, but any solution would be helpful.  Thanks!

According to http://drupal.org/node/485336 there is supposed to be a "filefield_inline_types" in the variable table, but I can't find it.  Am I supposed to add it?  Has anyone figured out a better way for Private files to open inline in the browser?
