[themes] although it’s a very powerful CMS, I didn’t have the greatest time with it as it came to be one of the most cumbersome and roundabout pieces of software...

This is clearly someone that is used to working with a different system and
found wrapping their head around a new one a bit hard. Lets not forget that
WordPress is a blog system, Drupal is a lot more. It's always going to be a
bit more of a learning curve.

Whilst this is true changes in the theme system that are already in the
pipeline will radically alter that, making it much easier to conquer blocks
and nodes :)
But whilst themeing Drupal can be made *easier*, it's never going to be
*easy* to set up and theme large or medium sized websites, not if you want
to do it well.
