Sacrificing the history is OK. We'll need a few days to go through the

That sounds like something we can live with.
There are several (well, at least some) contrib module translations in
CVS which were never imported to our local server. Will these also be
imported to the new server?
There will also be cases where there is an old translation in CVS, and
a newer version on our localization server. The core translations are
definitively more outdated in CVS than on the server. So when there's
a conflict between the files on CVS and the files from our server, the
server files should win.
