In the U.S., a merchant credit card account can cost as little as $10  
USD per month, plus transactions charges, or $120USD per year.  If  
you are billing thousands of dollars of work, the cost is not so  
bad.   But the transaction fee for low volume (like a consultant) can  
be 4%, which is a lot, but you can simply adjust your fees.

 From the client side, paying by credit card is predictable and easy,  
unlike wire transfers.
