That's wrong. As soon as you distribute the module you need to release
it under the GPL. That's the so-called viral nature of the GPL.

This would compromise the buyer's right to use your code under the GPL
and thus terminate your right to use Drupal under the GPL.

The way that mambo/joomla modules integrate with mambo/joomla may be
different than the way that Drupal modules integrate with Drupal, I
don't know. However, for Drupal it is pretty clear, that modules - and
to a certain extend themes - fall under the following questions of the
GPL FAQ:
