I should probably differentiate between grassroots efforts at
marketing Drupal and the association.  Let's keep this conversation

To answer the question " What specific marketing objective does the
association hope to achieve by showing wide adoption?"

To demonstrate the value of Drupal to evaluators, by showing how it
helps to acheive a specific business goal.

I stated our marketing effort was to show that Drupal was "widely
used".  Thanks for correcting me.  It's not useful.  A better
statement would have been to show that Drupal is well used to solve
specific problems.
