[support] Front page configuration

Hi all,

I just recently switched from Joomla to Drupal, and my first impression
is quite good (and I hope this won't change) although I have to admit,
that I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the possible modules and code snippets
that are available.

Right now I'm looking for a way to:

- Display only "pages" on the index webpage (and not blogs or forum
topics), i.e. only administrators should have the possibility to promote
nodes to the front page

- Give all registered users the possibility to submit content, but
before it is published, it should be approved by a moderator.

- I would like to have the nodes on the front page displayed without the
photo of the author (as on www.drupal.org)

Can you tell me what code snippets/modules I have to install for this or
how I can change the configuration in that sense?

And an additional question: Is there a way to forward all forum
contributions to a mailing list?

Thanks in advance for any useful advise.

                  Simon
