There is no one best solution for everyone.

The advantage of a Drupal forum is integration with the site's content
and feel in any way you want. Many people try to migrate from other

The advantage of a third party forum is its familiar look and that it
is more or less ready to use. There are a couple of Drupal modules
available for integrating with Drupal's users.
