In your db, clear your cache tables.

Try increasing the max_allowed_packet size -- set it at 16MB, and see 
what happens -- according to your current settings, it is at 1MB.

Restart Apache and MySQL after editing the mysql config file.

I'm assuming that you can bring a vanilla drupal install (just core, 
nothing else) live on this site with no issues, using your server 
current server config.
