We have also solved this using Workflow access, part of the workflow module.

However, with two other access control modules already in place, I would 
want to encourage you to only have one form of access control working on 
a node type at a time. While it is possible to have multiple access 
control modules working on a single node, it is difficult to ensure that 
you have the rules sorted out for every conceivable use case.
