would seem to make sense to start with something like this as a base and add only what is needed, rather than strip out stuff from tinyMCE of FCK.
We've currently got a lot more options than just tinymce/fck: * http://drupal.org/project/bueditor * http://drupal.org/project/htmlarea * http://drupal.org/project/quicktags * http://drupal.org/project/whizzywig * http://drupal.org/project/widgeditor * http://drupal.org/project/wymeditor * http://drupal.org/project/wysiwyg (not really, but kinda) * http://drupal.org/project/xstandard * http://drupal.org/project/yui_editor I made that list when Doug announced nicEdit - http://www.civicactions.com/blog/nicedit_a_new_text_editor_for_drupal which is yet another RTE that has been integrated already (though not jquery...yet). I personally am mostly interested in the discussion in terms of "how can I the user or module developer be sure that the RTE isn't applied to certain textboxes" since these can be a bit of a pain on admin/settings/ pages.
