true but I was responding to how PHP versions are tied to version of OS.
CentOS has long had the CentOS Plus repository (see http://www.jimohalloran.com/2005/08/30/php-5-for-centos-41/). PHP5 has been available for quite some time. One of the pushes of this process could be banding together and promoting/recommending a certain minimum version.
