I think both approaches have benefits, but I can not see how (for instance) xtemplate will be able to implement pull based templates. Nop, My comment was a bit cynical. I like the ability of themes doing their stuff where they watn to (pull), but I would not want to be forced to do this. Hence a phphtemplate is a nice hybrid solution. IMO we should keep it like that.
