When we initially set it up, eAccelerator seemed dead and XCache probably wasn't around yet.
I'll raise the issue to try the others.
FWIW, my one experience with XCache was it crashing mysteriously for 5 hours before the host we were dealing with turned it off and our Drupal site started miraculously working. We have another client that was running, I think, either eAccelerator or Zend's opcode cache and it's been running fine since last fall. I am but a single data point. --Larry Garfield
