Project module should support CC'ing interested individuals like bugzilla does.
Drupal.org does support this functionality. If you comment on a bug, and are interested in the updates, you can set so in the subscriptions setup. Yes, it is not the most obvious process and UI. I use this feature, and it works for me. Goba
