I think #4 is the least ambiguous. the -- is the most concise, but I am afraid it would not be obvious to new Drupal users, or non-technical users. I agree with Khalid here that #4 is the most descriptive. I think having clear CVS tags/branch names is great for new devs as a lot of projects are pretty sloppy with that.
That being said, I'm totally fine with any of those as it's not that big of a deal. Just my 2 cents. -Rob
