I totally agree. I think, we really should push the integration of jQuery into core forward right now, and not later, because it would be useful for many pieces of ui improvement.

AFAIK, the holdup is not on our side but in the completion of jQuery 1.0, which is currently in testing. I've used the patched jQuery with the patched copy of Drupal HEAD, and things seem to work very smoothly. Whether we're in a position to push forward before the 'final' version of jQuery is ready though... I'm not sure. --Jeff
