[drupal-devel] Project comments not getting noticed
I've observed a rather unfortunate pattern with submitting project issues and patches: I submit a project issue (possibly with a path) and hear nothing, nothing, nothing. Sometimes there actually is a response on the page, but I don't have any e-mail or anything else to give me a heads up to go look at it. http://drupal.org/node/8974 is a great example. I had no idea that anyone had requested changes to my patch until I happened to come across this one again looking for another patch I thought I had submitted. This is just one example of this pattern. Another example: http://drupal.org/node/11996 Two months went by between my original post and follow up #1, in which the bug was rejected as "won't fix" and I was asked to send it to the htmlarea.com forums. Again, I only found about it because I happened to be looking for another htmlarea issue. Any chance we could get a "send me an e-mail when somebody follows up to a thread I've posted to" feature added? I think this could significantly increase the quality of submissions and discussions about patches. -Eric

You might not want to hear this, but the proper thing to do is file a feature request for project.module. You could also bug the maintainer personally if you wish. See http://drupal.org/project/project for the maintainer (see the Submitter of that node). I agree that this would be a useful feature. We have a related feature already where you can subscribe to all issues which you create (that would have caught your two example). See project module's many subscription options - http://drupal.org/project/issues/subscribe. Techniques for making these options more visible are welcome.

Glad to know this does exist. I actually spent about 20 minutes looking for it before writing this message and came up empty-handed. I'll give some thought to how to make it more visible. -Eric

No, it's a reasonable request. See http://drupal.org/node/16014, written a few minutes ago.

Agreed. Now that I know it's there, it's pretty close to what I was seeking. I offered two suggestions for how to make it more visible. -Eric

I was greatly relieved to find that this feature already exists, though starting up I didn't see it documented ANYWHERE I typically looked. I guess I wasn't alone. http://drupal.org/project/issues/subscribe -- -- Grant Bowman <grantbow@grantbow.com>

This feature could do with being more prominent/visible. I talked with Kjartan and he's OK with me making changes to the project module. I'll be working on the project module a bit this weekend, so feel free to do the same and to send me patches or mockups. I'll look at them when I'm at it. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

I really like the bugzilla "Add me as CC" option, I think on drupal.org a simple checkbox for this would suffice. Onhe that hooks into the subscription.module. Regards, Bèr -- [ Bèr Kessels | Drupal services www.webschuur.com ]
