Dear list, It has taken some time before I was able to admit it to myself, but due to some extensive changes in my academic career I no longer have time to actively and responsibly maintain the modules I created. To be honest, I even didn't get to thoroughly study the changes in Drupal 5 from a developer's perspective, so I don't see myself upgrade these modules any time soon. I prioritized my Drupal and other activities, and I have decided that in the foreseeable future I will only continue to contribute to the Drupal project as the treasurer of the Drupal Association, and no longer as a module developer, since I believe that the Association is currently more important to support Drupal and help the project grow. Therefore, the following modules need new maintainers: Flash Gallery http://drupal.org/project/flash_gallery Graphstat http://drupal.org/node/33946 Inactive User http://drupal.org/node/10435 Simplenews http://drupal.org/project/simplenews As for Simplenews (critical for drupal.org), RobRoy (http:// drupal.org/user/22975) already has cvs access, and released a working 5.x version of the module. Furthermore, Sutharsan (http://drupal.org/ user/73854) provided a lot of great patches for simplenews lately. I'll forward this e-mail to him in case he doesn't read this list. I will unsubscribe from most public Drupal mailing lists soon, you can contact me in private through http://drupal.org/user/17892/ for cvs access and/or module ownership. Drupal.org site administrators are also free to perform these actions. I'd only like my name to be mentioned as the original author on the project page and README.txt of Flash Gallery, Graphstat and Simplenews. cheers, Dries Knapen
Hi Dries I would like to take over Flash Gallery. My strategy would be to maintain Flash Gallery 4.7 and then integrate into SWF Tools for 5. SWF Tools is here: http://drupal.org/project/swftools The goal of SWF Tools is to centralize Flash related modules, so taking of Flash Gallery would be *perfect*. The benefits of SWF Tools are: -- ships with GPL Flash Players -- ships with GPL Flash replacement javascript. Regards Simon (sime) Knapen Dries wrote:

Hi guys, The Import / Export API <http://drupal.org/project/importexportapi> is still seeking a new maintainer: I have added it to the list at http://drupal.org/node/115828 Bdragon is the new maintainer of the category module: see http://category.greenash.net.au/node/347 . However, additional volunteers are still needed, and are more than welcome to jump on board. Thanks, Jaza.

The title of that node is misleading. You should rename it to "modules needing help" or something. Cheers, Gerhard

Here are some new maintainers: Simplenews: RobRoy (uid 22975) and Sutharsan (uid 73854) Inactive User: Crell (uid 26398) Flash Gallery: Sime (uid 35266) Maybe these people can indicate whether they think it is still necessary to list those modules as 'needing help'? cheers, Dries Knapen

I'm here and will co-maintain Simplenews with Sutharsan. Please contact us or roam the issue queue if you'd like to help. :) Rob Roy Barreca Founder and COO Electronic Insight Corporation http://www.electronicinsight.com rob@electronicinsight.com Erik Stielstra wrote:

Hi Dries Based on this, I have made myself maintainer of flash_gallery. I've also removed Flash Gallery from the wikified list. I am open to contributions, but nothing serious at this stage. Simon (sime)
Hi all, I am using simplenews much and I want this module to stay alive. I'd go for maintaining the module if this won't bother anyone. On Mon, 05 Feb 2007 13:24:13 +0200, Knapen Dries <dries.knapen@ua.ac.be> wrote:

I have been working on a Graphical Statistics module of my own that bundles pears Image_Graph component http://pear.veggerby.dk/. It allows for some powerful graphs using simple object manipulation. Would you be interested in merging the efforts or are you looking for someone to take on in the direction it is now pointed? No offense either way. -- Michael Favia michael@favias.org tel. 512.585.5650 http://michael.favias.org

Thanks for the offer, but for the moment I'd like to keep Graphstat simple - without the need for users to install additional pear packages. Actually, I wrote a lot of new graphstat code last summer that will make graphstat much more generic, and will enable other modules to render graphs on their own by called a few graphstat- hooks. This code is not fully completed yet (and written for 4.7). So right now, I'd be great if someone could simply port the existing code to Drupal 5 (as that's what users are primarily requesting). This will allow users to continue using graphstat with its current functionality, and allow me to continue working on the planned graphstat extension without too much pressure... cheers, Dries

Completely understandable. I am actually writing the graphing module as a standalone API module and the statistics module is calling upon that. I'm also bundling the library with the module so no installation is necessary. While it is somewhat of a misuse of the "PEAR library" concept, I find that too many people aren't in control of the systems environment enough to assume they can install and configure PEAR themselves. I hate code duplication as much as the next guy but sometimes it is the lesser of 2 evils. If you are totally unable to find a "proper maintainer" I might be able to provide upgrade assistance but it depends on my work schedule over the next month or two. Thanks for the response. -- Michael Favia michael@favias.org tel. 512.585.5650 http://michael.favias.org

Please keep in mind that bundling third-party software is not allowed in contrib cvs. Cheers, Gerhard
