Building Theme Documentation, Need Help.
Hi everyone, I'm trying to whip up some documentation that will help the average person who is new to Drupal Themeing get started. I have come up with a few questions they might have, but I was wondering if you guys might know of a few more. 1. How do I change colors in my theme? 2. How do I change the layout of my theme? 3. How can I manage inconsistancy in the different themes? 4. How do I solve browser compatibility issues? 5. What is a Theme Engine? Etc... These are just a few questions, but I would love to hear of more from you guys(and gals) as to what you feel people want to know. Also, for those of you out there who are just starting to theme, feel free to put your questions in the ring. As always you can find me on #cstheme (The CivicSpace Theme Channel) on irc.freenode.net Thanks in advance, Trae -- Trae "occy" McCombs || http://occy.net/ Founder - Themes.org // Linux.com CivicSpaceLabs - http://civicspacelabs.org/
One area I have trouble with is the stylesheets. I think this should be included for those of us that are css noobie. Trae McCombs wrote:

One aspect of MT templating is a little goofy. Every different view -- 'category view', 'index page' view, 'individual entry' view, etc, is a template for a full and complete HTML page. Code for displaying each individual entry is duplicated in each template. I spent a few days setting up a series of template for my MT blog that mirrored PHPTemplate's system: a 'page' template, and a smaller repeating 'entry' template that's included. It takes work, though, and the system doesn't lend itself to that very easily. --Jeff

Yeah, that's goofy but there are easy work arounds ... but that is not the point. The point is that it's really, really easy to use code snippets here and there to template one of those --not so in Drupal. So, how can we make it easy? After a nap or a good night's sleep I may be able to explain better :) On Nov 22 2005, at 01:27 PM, Jeff Eaton wrote:

Well, overriding how a given node is displayed with PHPTemplate is easy. Node.tpl.php is a pretty tiny file, and looking at it, it's obvious what's going on. Do you mean larger-scale stuff like page.tpl.php, or theme function overrides? --Jeff
