Evaluating Drupal 5.0
Hello, I plan to do a performance comparison of Drupal 5.0 with Drupal 4.7 similar to what I did at: http://buytaert.net/drupal-vs-joomla-performance http://buytaert.net/drupal-webserver-configurations-compared Along with upgrading Drupal.org to Drupal 5 that should give us some more confidence about Drupal 5's performance. Of course, there are other aspects of Drupal 5 that could do being evaluated. Two examples would be: XHTML compliance, accessibility and search engine optimalisation. For example, did anyone check whether Drupal 5 (Garland) is more or less accessible than Drupal 4.7 (Bluemarine)? -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/
Glad to hear it. Perhaps the various groups on g.d.o can coordinate other evaluations of Drupal 5. They are: http://groups.drupal.org/accessibility http://groups.drupal.org/search-engine-optimization http://groups.drupal.org/usability There doesn't appear to be an XHTML or standards compliance group, but there is http://groups.drupal.org/benchmarking-drupal Regarding Garland accessibility, the one issue I'm aware of is that form input text cannot be resized by Internet Explorer http://drupal.org/node/101629 - this a very important issue for people with visual disabilities, who will currently find it difficult to fill out forms on Drupal 5 sites using Garland. Though this is only one of many areas that would be included in a full accessibility evaluation. .ck Dries Buytaert wrote:

I didn't notice a comparison of DB engine. MySql 4 vs MySql 5. MySql vs Postgress, etc. I think it would be an interesting comparison. Earnie

I warn you that if you ask for another thing to be done by someone else without actually contributing anything that will be your last action on this list. Enough is enough. NK

Karoly, take it easy. He didn't actually ask for anything....just mentioned that a DB comparison would be interesting. -- Boris Mann

Of course. He just mentions stuff which some find a bit annoying. "This report might be more interesting if the Version, Category, Priority and Status were listed. It might also prove interesting to sort the list by oldest to youngest." "You know what would be really cool for d.o?" "However, there is a hell of a lot of information to search through and if someone like Derek Wright knew that the request existed why not ask instead of wasting my own time weeding through irrelavant formation?" But, of course, I should still take it easy. No. I won't. I am full of it. NK

I have told it a little too often (to my liking) on this list the last months, but I will do it again: There is no-one forcing anyone to read all threads and mails. Most advanced mailing programs have ignore functions: use them, please. Instead of shouting at people, just ignore them, that is one of the benefits of a 'virtual environment'. http://drupal.org/user/86710/track Sorry to offend your sense of the use of your list. The quoted statement doesn't really ask anyone to do anything; I was just making a statement. I really like Drupal and want to help extend it and have tried to help where I can. Patience please as I learn more about Drupal. Earnie

It would be, yes. I don't have the time it takes to evaluate that the next couple of months. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/
