Request for comments: Remove comment history from issue emails
Hi All There has been a feature request to stop including the complete history of issues in each email sent when a new comment on an issue is created. There are two arguments for doing this: 1. It's a waste of bandwidth, etc. to resend the complete history for every issue, and my guess is that most people don't read anything but the most recent comment. 2. Some email programs that display messeges in a threaded format, such as Gmail, display the entire message, and therefore reading multiple comments in one thread in a row is painful. I have summarized our options with this respect in a comment on this issue at http://drupal.org/node/15380#comment-755454 If you have feelings one way or another about whether we should stop sending the complete history and instead send only the most recent comment in issue emails, please respond in the issue queue, not via email. Thanks Adam Light (aclight)
I am annoyed by this too. It was not such an issue before the "follow up as comments" patch was implemented, and Gmail handled it quite well by hiding the older stuff from view, so you only saw the recent comments. Now, Gmail never hides the followups and is slow because of all the JS and long email. So, +1 on including only the last comment, not the entire history. There is a link in there. Click on it if you need to. On Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 9:02 PM, Adam Light <aclight@gmail.com> wrote:

I personally use the comment history a LOT in email because 1) I can't necessarily remember and 2) if it's there in my email I don' thave to click open a web page.
I would prefer the comment history in reverse order for the sake of useful mobile reading. -----Original Message----- From: Earl Miles <merlin@logrus.com> Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2008 07:44:01 To:development@drupal.org Subject: Re: [development] Request for comments: Remove comment history from issue emails Adam Light wrote:

I use the email history as well. I'd love to see threaded comments though. Earnie -- http://for-my-kids.com/ -- http://give-me-an-offer.com/
Sounds like we will never reach agreement on this. I read it all with Gmail, so suffer the problems Adam mentions. I realize well that others have good reasons to take the opposite position. ..chris On Tue, Mar 4, 2008 at 5:12 PM, Earnie Boyd <earnie@users.sourceforge.net> wrote:

We could just make it a preference. Chris Johnson wrote:

Or, all of you could have read the original message and
REPLIED TO THE ISSUE.
It is not as fun though. See! ;-)
