[support] Nodereference widget with sorting?

Hello All, I have a nodereference field that allows me to reference from 3 different content types. When i use the autocomplete widget i'm able to reference AND sort the referenced items. But i would rather have all the available items for reference displayed in e.g. a drop down. When opting for that widget i lose the ability to sort. Is there a good way or plugin to make this nodereferencing more user-friendly? Any help greatly appreciated. Best, Toon
