I think php needs to be .php (notice the dot)
And I don't know what Fedora needs, but on my Debian install the line is:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml .php3

Thanks Anton! I tried the dot, and restarted Apache. It didn't work. The application type didn't work either. :(
