[support] Ecommerce Free Text Input "Attribute"

I am certain that this question has been asked before, but I can't find the answer. I am just now starting a new estore and we need to allow open text inputs for products, so users can send us their name to be monogrammed, for example. I don't see a way to do this with ecommerce. I would be willing to switch to ubercart if it has this, but last time I looked it I don't recall seeing it. Is this doable with either? Thanks.
