Building website with POI (Points of Interests)
Hi, I'm building a website about Route 66, for my own needs. Probably will not go public. I made page (as in content type) for each State (8) Route 66 going through. These pages will probably not have any content. More for Menu purpose only. Similar, I plan to make a page (content type) for each city. Menu links of these pages are actually sub-primary menu links: Primary menu: * Illinois > Chicago > Cicero > Joliet > ... * Missouri > St. Louis > Springfield > ... City pages will probably not have any content either. Now comes the pain: I have to start building POI (Points Of Interests). POI has to have Name, Address, City, State, Description. Geo Coordinates (Longitude & Latitude) - if known. I was thinking to create a content type for each city and that way "group" POIs, but something's tellig me it's not good idea. I know it's possible to create web form (I know there is module for webform) to enter POI but never used it and I'm not quite sure how can I group these entries by city? Also, I have to be able create something like Photo album about each POI to add any picture I found interesting about this POI (download fro Internet and upload to my Drupal site) and comment the picture. I need ability to "update" POI with new information (text) but it could be as a Comment on POI. I'm new in Drupal and I need help what directions I have to take? Which modules I need to use here... Any help appreciated. Thanks, Afan
Look at the Location and Views modules. This may take care of most, if not all, your issues. --ross ________________________________ From: Afan Pasalic <afan@afan.net> To: support@drupal.org Sent: Fri, January 21, 2011 9:08:35 AM Subject: [support] Building website with POI (Points of Interests) Hi, I'm building a website about Route 66, for my own needs. Still learning about Location module, but there is something else. If I create content type POI is there a way I can sort nodes manually, by weight instead date posted or something? Thanks, Afan

I don't want to be rude but: Duh! :-D In View, I'm assuming the place to sort nodes is "Sort criteria", but I don't see anything I can use it? There is not "Node weight" or something? Just "Taxonomy: Weight" - and I don't use Taxonomy :-( Victor Kane wrote:

I sometimes add a CCK integer field to the content type to use as the sort field in a view depending on the situation. * Ryan LeTulle,* Web Developer personal: bayousoft.com <http://www.bayousoft.com> twitter: @bayousoft <http://twitter.com/bayousoft> <http://twitter.com/bayousoft> <http://twitter.com/bayousoft>*"Be the change you want to see in the world." * Mahatma Gandhi On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 10:22 AM, Afan Pasalic <afan@afan.net> wrote:

I created Bloc in View for Location and in Filters section selected Location: City = Chicago The block shows only POI Chicago City: Chicago City: Chicago <http://drupal.org> ("POI Chicago" is Title, twice City: Chicago because there are only two nodes) Nothing else? Where I manage what supposed to be shown?

In View, as I said, in Filters I selected "Location: City = Chicago" If I want to show Block with other city nodes I have to create new View for City=Joliet, City=St. Louis, City=Oklahoma,... View for each City? Or I can select that City=<selected_city> from Path. Like, if http://www.Route66.com/Flagstaff, then "City=Flagstaff". Or something? Afan Pasalic wrote:

You can use arguments, to filter the view according to variables sent via the URL. Take a look here: http://drupal.org/node/611152 you probably need to add the field you want to filter by as the argument.
