[development] cookie/session changes

I often have multiple drupal installations on a machine.  For instance 
www.sample.com/drupal1 and www.sample.com/drupal2.

It used to be that I could log into both sites with a single browser.  It 
would maintain a session on each.  But recently that changed.  Now when I log 
into drupal2, I get access denied when I return to drupal1.

Anyone know what changed and how I can fix it?
