TDobes, the current maintainer, is a frequent Drupal contributor; I'd  
be surprised if he's no longer around.  I'd give the maintainer some  
time to reply.  We can't expect people to reply within one day.

Some of us could commit these patches, but I'm afraid few of us are  
familiar with the privatemsg module.  It would take us some time to  
get up to speed on the privatemsg module's internals.
