Anyone looking at AJAX frameworks should take a serious look at
jQuery, http://jquery.com/. Only used it sparsely with Drupal but it's
CSS and XPath selectors makes it easy to include in an unobtrusive
manner. It's also lightweight (even compared to
scriptaculous/prototype) and has a plugin framework.

Michael Geary (http://drupal.org/user/14527) has written an entry on
JSON and jQuery on his blog, http://mg.to/2006/01/25/json-for-jquery.

I have a feeling that jQuery and Drupal could be the perfect fit, a
JQuery module anyone?
