Yeah.  Donald Norman makes the canonical argument on this point in his
Design of Everyday things.  Your design should generally endeavor to
make tasks easy for users.  The major exception is that if something
is dangerous or has a low likelihood of being what the user wants, you
should use the design principles to purposefully make that task *hard*
to do.

There is a good reason you keep the poison in a bottle that is hard to
open and then put scary labels on them and then hide them in a locked
cupboard.  So it is with unmaintained versions of software.

Dries has said that if someone wants to maintain past releases they
are welcome to make that plea to him but they must make a good case
for being able to actually support it (e.g. create/examine/review
security problems and patches).
