If you have soucre code under an MIT-licensed, you are free to 
distribute it under any other license as long as the terms in the MIT 
license aren't violated. The terms of GPL are compatible with MIT and 
vice versa. Therefore, the answer is very easy: you can redistribute the 
widgrt under GPL.
