I think the use-case is somewhat moot.  %s would be a generic  
attribute (as only %d's would be cast to integers). The performance  
related argument and the query-ability argument, however, makes sense  
to me.  Thanks for the various clarifications.  I'll look at the  
sandbox as soon time permits! :)
