[development] node caching

Karoly: are YOU arguing that it should be rolled back? I don't think so. 
You're the only one who has mentioned it, though. Remember, if the 
doctor came in and said "hello, as of today you have a new heart", even 
if it is a very good doctor, you'd still have some questions, right?
