As I said, we don't want obliterate what's there. That's what tags are
for -- there could be a 5.0-1.x and 5.0-2.x tags with different
codebases.

I do hope you get a response. Several people have tried contacting him
for the last 3 - 4 weeks with no response.

Yep, which isn't good enough for the range of flexibility that people
have used throughout 4.7.x.
In any case, it looks like we're going to do an "unfork" and have a
bugfix party. Will update with details.
