Apologies for butting in but I like the version after idea.  The URI 
api/function/hook_menu could give a summary of the function including 
the significant changes per version while api/function/hook_menu/6.x 
could give the specifics for that version.  It provides a cleaner 
interface to the user.  Sounds like a lot of work though and don't know 
that it would be worth the amount of time.
