Although it was me who wrote that, I think a full implementation of this
'task' (IMO it's neither a feature nor a bug, it's simply required) would
require changes in the user API, and thus it may be better postponed for
D7...?

I think we need a core committer decision on this in front of trying to
implement it for D6.
