When digit becomes digits it is not enough.

However I've understood Derek to say that N is just a sequence number 
and [digit for Drupalcorenumber][digit for branchnumber][two digits for 
sequence] is a convention that isn't enforced by code.  So 
mymod_update_1 is sufficient for the update script to find my update.  
The documentation doesn't state that though; so this exercise wasn't a 
waste of time because at least now it is documented in the list 
archives.
