If you use MAMP (http://www.mamp.info/), which is a convenient bundle  
of Apache, MySQL and PHP for Mac OS X, you already have Postgres  
support in PHP. All you need is the Postgres server itself. Here is  
one that is easy to install, but only on 10.4 it seems:
